City sand: Not in the woods or on the beach, just washed up at the curb. Downtown Greenville, SC

Where does the sand come from? Up here every spring we have to clean up the sand that accumulates on all the roads from the de-icing mixture used during the winter. That doesn't seem likely in Greenville...

You're right, we don't spread sand on the roads here, as you guys do up north. But we do currently have a lot of construction of new buildings going on in downtown Greenville. I'm sure the construction sites are supposed to keep dirt and sand from reaching the street. But this sand somehow got free and washed into the gutter. I was walking along the sidewalk and went "Hey, sand!"
